We all know how difficult it is to avoid aging, but now there’s a way for you to look more refreshed and rejuvenated – it will also help reduce the appearance of wrinkles! Nuceiva™ (known as Jeuveau™ in US) is an anti-aging injectable solution containing Clostridium Botulinum bacteria. Nicknamed ‘Newtox’, this miracle chemical has been approved by Health Canada over 20 years ago and is primarily used for cosmetic purposes.
Because both are neuromodulator injections, people often ask the difference between Nuceiva™ and Botox®. Nuceiva™ is distributed by Clarion Medical Technologies and Botox® is distributed by Allergan in Canada. A few points to remember is that Nuceiva™ is a quick treatment, with little to no downtime, and can even last longer for some people. FAQs About Nuceiva™ Treatment
Nuceiva™ is a new anti-wrinkle treatment marketed strictly for use in a cosmetic sense. Nuceiva™ contains Botulinum Toxin Type A (Prabotulinumtoxin A) as the active substance. In small doses, the neurotoxin prevents muscle contraction by blocking the release of acetylcholine – a chemical that lets your muscles contract. It’s been making waves ever since Health Canada approved the use in August 2019 and is one of the newest neuromodulator in the market.
The number of units can vary for every individual, especially between men and women. People who are more active and have stronger muscles may need more units. Your physician injector will properly examine your facial structure and determine the appropriate dosage of Nuceiva™.
There are few restrictions to activities after you are done with your Nuceiva™ wrinkle treatment, you will only need to avoid excess heat and strenuous activities for one day. You can go back to work and resume your normal activities immediately. It is best to wait for at least a day before you attend a special event.
Nuceiva™ is an ideal treatment for anyone wanting to ease the look of moderate to severe facial lines. If you are starting to feel self-conscious or considering to have Nuceiva™ wrinkle treatment, here are some signs:
- You are starting to see signs of wrinkles forming.
- Wrinkles are starting to make your eyes look tired, angry, sad, or upset – even if you are not expressing any of these emotions.
- Your facial expressions cause static wrinkles (wrinkles are present even after our facial muscles relax).
- You are starting to look older than you actually want.
Treatment offers little downtime, but there are activities that you should be aware of after you finish with treatment. Stay in an upright position for at least 4 hours following an injection. Here is a list of activities that you should avoid once you are done with your Nuceiva™ procedure:
- Avoid heavy pressure, massaging, or rubbing the treated area.
- Avoid exercise or strenuous movements for the remainder of the treatment day.
- Avoid hot environments (saunas, tanning, extra UV exposure)
- Avoid doing other facial treatments for at least 2 weeks (microdermabrasion, facials, chemical peels, microneedling, skin care or laser treatments).
If you experience discomfort or tenderness, applying an ice pack or taking over-the-counter pain relievers may help.
Like Botox®, the risks of Nuceiva™ are the same. Because it deals with a type of botulinum toxin, you will find similar risks associated. Here are some of the risk factors and risk groups:
- Eyelid ptosis: Drooping of the eyelid due to underlying conditions.
- Immunogenicity: Excessive (and too frequent) dosage may enhance the risk of developing specific antibodies that fight the neurotoxin (making it useless).
- Distant spread of toxin.
- Incorrect drug administration.
